This is a special type of ultraviolet germicidal lamp that provides a higher UVC output and a wider temperature range in which the lamp remains operational thanks to a technology that regulates the mercury vapour pressure in the lamp.
Unlike standard lamps, the mercury is not liquid and left free in the lamp, but rather solid amalgam beads inside the quartz tube.
The optimum mercury vapour pressure is maintained in an amalgam lamp by these amalgam beads absorbing and releasing the mercury in the lamp as the lamp temperature fluctuates.
Because the mercury vapour pressure remains constant, the ultraviolet output also remains constant, so an amalgam lamp is unaffected by changes in ambient air or water temperature and its ultraviolet output remains stable over a wide range of temperatures.
They remain effective even at the end of their life, whereas conventional UVC lamps lose their effectiveness after 75% of their life.
A wise choice for all users.
